Today was awesome! besides the work bit, that was just plain hot and boring (by hot, I mean being in a warehouse with no circulating air hot, not hot in a sexual way...)

I've been making it a point to bike to work as often as I can, both to save gas and burn some extra calories. It feels so very nice. Haven't noticed a change yet but perhaps it will kick in.

When I got home today, I discovered I had some mail, my favorite kind of mail in fact...money from the government! I got my renter's rebate back! god that felt good, especially after how I was feeling last night...That is going to put a nice dent in my credit cards! And then I get paid on wednesday! with any luck I can convince my dad to contribute tomorrow as well...what a profitable week I'm having!

After dinner, Deb and I started working on the quilt room, going through the closet of fabric to figure out what needed to be kept and what could be tossed. I'm proud of her...lol, she gave up a lot of fabric. Sometime this week she and I are going to start listing things on etsy so that should help some money come in. Every hour of chores I do, I am slowly chipping away at my debt to Debbie, it feels so good to be repaying her for all the helps she's given me over the years. Although truthfully no amount of chores I do could really add up to what she's done, but I can show her appreciation at least. I'll just have to make sure I amount to something so she knows her investment in me was well done.

At some point tonight my mother and I had a heart to heart. Well, sort of, as much as she can have one of those. I got a lot off my chest and whether it will mean anything to her in the future, I doubt, but for some reason I never stop trying... I just want a mother that cares, and that shows it. I want to see her be proud of me and not think I was a mistake, that she should have gone to be a nun or should have had a son. I'm proud of who I am, I want her to see that of all the mistakes she's made in her life, I am not one of them.

While I'm still conscious tonight I'm going to try and set up an excel spreadsheet for the etsy thing. My experience at the Pawn shop doing the ebay crap will come in handy I guess! I never actually thought that would happen...

I feel really good about today, really really good.

I'm quite excited for the middle of the week since VNV Nation is coming to Station 4 in St Paul. I've seen them once before when they came two years ago to Ground Zero. That was a beautiful show and I can't wait to see how they outdo themselves this time around. Although I'm a little nervous about the venue because when I saw Combichrist at Station 4 in February, the sound cut out not once, not twice...but three times. Now granted, Combi and VNV have a very different kind of sound, the former being much louder and aggressive than the later...but still. Not cool. But no matter what, the show is bound to be good because Ayria is opening for them and she's got spunk!

This past Friday was an epic adventure into the realm of rock climbing for me. Bryce, Ian, Katie and I went to Vertical Endeavors in St Paul and climbed for a couple of hours. After about three climbs my arms gave up the whole working thing and I was forced to sit and watch for a bit. but I had a blast. My knees on the other hand continue to be angry at me...stupid knees...I'll just force them into submission with climbing every week...that's bound to be a good idea...right? ha...probably not but we'll give it a try anyway. I think Fridays are going to be our double date rock climbing adventures. should be excellent especially since Fridays are "Ladies Night" so I get in for half off...woot!

I've been suffering a terribly sore throat from some kind of allergy that picked up about two weeks ago. Not sure what it is but it sucks. My aunt suggested I run out and pick up a NetiPot from Walgreens. Imagine sticking a mini-watering can or tea pot in your nose with a mild saline solution and washing your sinuses out, in one nostril and out the other...it's awesome...*cough* but hey, if it works...why not. Debbie swears by it and she's been using it since last December.

Hmmm, the imitation Benadryl is starting to kick in...I can't wait to actually get some sleep tonight! and to top it off I'm drinking some "SleepyTime" tea...oooo life is good...

I should really fold my clothes and do some kind of art post card for Bryce yet tonight...totally shouldn't have taken that imitation Benadryl as early as I did...too much yet to dzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

Reset

The big move is officially this Saturday. Bryce and I have a storage place set up for Saturday and we're enlisting the help of friends and family to help us tackle all that stuff. Then lots of cleaning to prepare for our final walk through on Sunday. I still have mixed feelings about having to leave this place. But overall I'm really optimistic about the chance to regain some financial footing.

My goal is to have my credit cards paid off, two of them canceled and cut up, leaving one for emergencies with a sizable chunk of money saved up as well. I've been really foolish with money and it has gotten out of hand, I'm ready for change and I'm going to tackle it.

In other news, my internship at Goody Beads wraps up next week. When I asked if they would decide to bring me on as a paid part of the workings upstairs, I was told not likely. I've heard this before and I felt slightly betrayed after all my hard work that went unpaid. Sure, MCAD is happy, having another box checked for my transcript, but where are the ethics and loyalty? Play on my inexperience and naive hopes, fine, but don't expect me to be thrilled to continue doing little illustrations for you here and there when you feel like it...

Ugg, but my frustrations lead me to looking on my schools career services site to discover a posting for Fast Horse Inc. a multi Media Design firm in Minneapolis that has a wonderful personality that resonates with me nicely. They are looking for a Design intern and they will pay $12 for one with hopes of them taking a full time position in the fall...I feel a little foolish to hope I can nab this job...but that doesn't change the fact that I'm hoping all the same.

Here's a little something I've been working on for Goody Beads, I'm quite happy with how she's turning out although it's a little bittersweet since I found out the unhappy news. I don't really want them to have her now...*sigh* oh well...that's life I guess.

Moving time

Well, it's finally come. the time to leave this awesome place we have in Southwest Minneapolis. We've rented this house for about ten months now and I'm really super sad that we have to leave. But alas, the money is just not there. Bryce and I spent most of the day packing up my studio and the basement storage room. clearing that stuff into the garage and whatnot. Loooooots of work! I'm tired! Moved some stuff into my car as well to start moving the stuff I want to live with over the summer over to Debbie's and grandma's.

As much as I'm going to miss living with Bryce and getting to see him every day, I'm really looking forward to living at Grandma's again. I get to see my baby! Midnight Moon (Aka Evil Awful Pussy) is always so mad at me for "abandoning" him. This should make him less sulky. Plus, good ol' home cooking from the grandma? how can you get better than that? Then bantering with debbie on a regular basis...kinda miss that. Then there's being able to bike to work every day, not paying bills, not paying rent, and less to worry about in general. Hopefully the Summer will prove to be a good time to recoup some funds and pick ourselves back up.

I'll admit, I've been slacking off on my art (and just about everything else I've been wanting to use the summer for). but I've been working from 9 to 6 just about every day and by the time I get home I'm just not motivated to do anything...That should change when the move is over...*crosses fingers*

yeah...not a whole lot to say here...

oh! if you're a crafter, you should totally check out the place that I work... www.goodybeads.com They just redid their website and it looks awesome. As part of my internship I've been working on creating illustration content for the site. Particularly in the tutorial section. (note, I did not do the Miss Pearl Illustration, that would be my coworker So's doing. isn't she cute?) but yeah, go check it out! One of these days I get to be a guest blogger, so look for something from Kitty Crystal...I think that's the name I'm going to go with!

Anyway, I think I'm going to make something to eat and finish watching Batman Begins... I'm totally wiped from all that packing!

Cabin Project

Over Memorial Day Weekend, Bryce and I went up to my aunt's cabin to survey it's condition and start cleaning it up. We've made it our summer project to try and get that place into a state of being pleasant to visit and a desirable place to relax for the weekend...we'll see how that goes...since it's quite a piece of work...

We went up friday evening and arrived around 8pm. Bryce immediately got to cutting wood so we would have a fire. We didn't really need the fire for heat since it was a very nice temperature even at night. We needed it more for protection from bugs. The misquitos were vicious and annoying and woke us up at 5:30 in the morning...not pleasant.
We didn't actually stay up there very long, just friday night and then we left around 3pm saturday afternoon. We got plenty of work done though. we were just sick of sleeping on the floor. I have a feeling that we'll just spend one night up there until we can actually feel okay about leaving a mattress there. Anyway, I have lots of before and after pictures for your viewing pleasure. I'll update this blog as we get more work done. good times.

So yeah, all that stuff in the "Before" Pictures was shoved into either the storage area or the shed in the back. Most of it actually isn't ours so I have to wait and get the go ahead before we can throw it all in the dumpster like I want to...

Lots of work to go but I love it up there so much!

Summer is blowing in

Did we skip spring and just jump right in to summer? Jesus it's at least 90 out! I missed spring almost entirely...Today at work, the power went out because the wind took out a power tower, which in turn took out two poles with it. Excel decided to shut down the entire 1/2 mile radius even though just one building was actually connected to it...*sigh* oh well.

came home, played with the dog outside and got him drenched with the hose. He loved that quite a bit.

Not quite sure what I'm going to do with myself today... I could go outside and read more of Cradle to Cradle but too hot and windy...I could clean...but I'm too hot for that...I should either work on my dress or draw more...not sure. at some point I'm going over to my dad's to check out what he's doing with his new house. that should be exciting.

Time for a Break?

haha! no...hardly. Summer Vacation means working full time to recover some funds, cleaning the house, getting rid of collected junk, getting ready to move, work on my art more, doing all the things I couldn't do while school was going on, like hang out with lovely people, working out and getting into shape (more on that later) and making dresses!

I'm really excited for this summer. Like the last blog said I have a lot planned for it, plenty to keep me busy and entertained! Just got my hair cut last night and it looks super spiffy. I'd take some pictures and post them but I just went for a run with Buddy so it's not so awesome right now. Quite a bit shorter than I'm used to but I'm glad I took the leap because it's wonderful! I found my favorite hair stylist and she has a new client...hehe woot!

All in all, finals went really well. I can't wait until grades come in because I think they'll be worth celebrating. I'll post them here when I get them.

It's a guard weekend so Bryce is up at Camp Ripley playing army. Good times. That means I get the place to myself and will be getting some work done in my studio. Now that we know we're moving I'm going to be minimizing my stuff and sorting out what I need with me, what I can store and what I'd like to store at Deb's (you know, just in case). I may also start/finish the dress I have cut out and waiting for my attentions...we'll see...

Tonight I'm going to cook up some Tilapia and asparagus, have a glass of wine and perhaps get the ball rolling on something. Not sure yet.

Oh, like I said above, I'm going to be working on losing some weight and getting into shape. I want to lose 15-20 pounds by mid summer. I miss a lot of my old clothes and think it's ridiculous that I can't fit into most of them. I banished the sweatpants that I've been wearing every freaking day and am forcing myself to wear the one pair of jeans that just barely fits me. Those sweatpants let me get away with too much...now I've got to work my bum off...literally. I'm going to be taking up bellydancing again when summer session rolls around, in the mean time I dug out my bellydance DVDs to start conditioning my muscles to work the way their supposed to. Plus I'm trying to go out running every evening when I get home from work. So far so good...well, being Day 1 and all... Also incorporating some bicycle crunches as per Bryce's suggestion. The hard part is going to be the running...I hate running and my knees hate me for trying to run. But I can't keep bending to their will. They'll only get worse if I keep babying them like I have been. I certainly can't do much now...like tonight I just ran/walked Buddy around a couple of blocks and came right back...but it's something, and better than nothing. I just have to keep adding a little bit more to it every time. I think tomorrow I'll go for a bike ride too...depends on the weather.

Speaking of the weather, it smelled like Lilacs and Rain while I was outside...a fragrance company really needs to market that smell because it is amazing!!! Good stuff.

Anyway, I think it's time to make some dinner. Toodles all!

End of Finals (just about)

well kids, I'm just about done with my Junior year here at the MCAD. it's a little surreal thinking that next year I'll be graduating and entering yet another chapter in my life. It feels like it was just yesterday that I graduated High School and started going to Normandale...and here I am at MCAD doing what I always knew I wanted to be doing.

The walls at MCAD are loaded with the Senior Projects, it's really exciting to see all the work and their business cards. It all looks and feel so professional and high quality. Thrilling and frightening that I'll be scrambling next year just like they were. I'm not quite sure what Senior year is like for BS kids but it will be no joke for sure.

I'm starting to ponder what I want to do over the summer. I certainly don't want to slack off and think that it's a break or anything. Summer is just like any time of the year really, just more sun, warmer temps and no homework. I still have a job to work, an internship to complete as well as an externship to set up. I talked to one of my instructors today about jumping on a project that he's organizing for USBank that sounds super super exciting. It's totally volunteer based and no internship credit can be given so that kinda sucks...but it's a low time commitment portfolio and networking potential that sounds like a ton of fun! There's also working on my website that I completed last semester for Portfolio.net that I never purchased the url or server space...that's at least $100 I don't have at the moment... I almost want to totally revamp it because I don't think it portrays enough of my current work and ability. so I get to review coding again and I think that's pretty exciting! Ideally I'll pick up the drawing a day thing again because I totally lost track of that...

I have some projects for other people to do as well. Including the tattoo for Logan that I said I'd design over thanksgiving break, and the Cat illustration for debbie's quilt that I also promised would be done months ago... This summer is going to be loaded with work...loaded!

But the good news is that classes are just about done. I'm finishing my Visualizing Physics class that was fun except for the group project which turned out to be a nightmare... (but it's done! book is bounded and we're turning it in today!) I just have two classes next week, one that I can't even go to because I've been called into court as a witness from a Loss Prevention case over a year ago...fun times...luckily my teacher is letting me come in on sunday to take it early. The other is tuesday morning. I'm not terribly worried about either of the tests...I'm actually quite confident that this semester went even better than last...which is awesome!

oh and there's also Bellydancing which I'll be picking up again over the summer. I seriously need to start working out more or just being more active and eating healthy in general. I need to undo what college has done to me!!! I miss my old clothes...

*shrugs* other than that...I don't know what else to say. just putting a lot out there...I know there's more going on in my head but it kinda scares me to think about everything I want to get done and the idea of not being able to is sad...lots of craziness coming up!

oh and one more thing! Alice in Wonderland: Mad Hatter Tea Party is still happening! just not last week...obviously...go finals! sometime mid or late summer it shall be glorious and fun! I'll keep this updated with how that's going once I can start it again...whee!

Basically it's a website that translates and provides news to Americans (in English), about the U.S. written by and for other countries (typically in other languages). I think their approach is important and provides a viewpoint that's all too often overlooked by mainstream media. As Americans I think it's easy for us to live happily in our little bubble, and all too easy to forget about the world around us and what they think of what we're doing. But just browsing through this site was terribly interesting and fun.

Go look at it and ponder the change of viewpoint and how it makes you feel...kinda fun.

Okay Kiddies, in absolutely no special order at all, (in fact, I couldn't tell you what's what based on the crazy coding I see on my blogging thing now...) there are images here from Dr. Sketchy's, Alice in Wonderland (those sketches are now totally worthless by the way, since alice will now be a punk snowboarder and the Cat will be played by a star and the caterpillar will be played by a molecule... sad day, but in reality it makes more sense with the whole String theory ness... oh well), some random note things and some sketches from the Suicide Girls book we bought recently. I haven't been lazy, I 'm just terrible at updating this thing! sorry!

sad day, the end of spring break is already here. it was a lovely week of relaxing and securing an internship, playing and pretending to work. I got some things done so that's a plus. I would say that with the whole internship thing, this break was a huge success! Now it's crunch time...about a month more of school and I'm done until the fall...which will in any likelihood be an externship so still no classes until next spring! I'm almost done! this is crazy!

Bryce and I spent the weekend at his mom's house in Coon Rapids, just relaxing and watching movies. We got to utilize her jacuzzi and then we baked cookies! Overall an excellent way to end my break!

In a little bit Bryce and I are going to go to Spyhouse, but in the mean time I'm going to take some pictures of stuff I've been drawing so you people don't think I'm being lazy or something. how sad. I'll post them shortly...until then...toodles!

Internship, GO!

Good news everyone! I got an internship with Goodybeads.com where I currently work. The job that I've been doing has just been mindless grunt work but I went to them today with a presentation showing what I'm going to school for and what I would like to do for them over the course of two internships and a potential externship. They loved what I showed them and are excited to take me on as an intern but unfortunately they can't pay me for it...*pout* so I'll keep doing what I'm doing to earn some money to live on but plug in some hours doing the real fun stuff of the internship. I'm really excited to start, in fact once I'm done with this entry I'm going to fill out the internship contract and get that all set up and ready to go for tomorrow so they can sign it and I can turn it in on monday so I can start right away! wahhhh! why didn't I think of this sooner??? *sigh* oh well. I've got it now and that's what matters.

that's mostly it for now, time to get to work!

Frustrations

Hello all,

I need to vent and no one is home to listen so the world is the unlucky one. or perhaps my computer is more unlucky to be the one I'm pounding away my frustrations at. *sigh*

So for my Visualizing Physics class our final is to break out into groups of three and chose one of four topics, Quantum Mechanics, Theory of Relativity, Dark Matter and Energy and String Theory. My group went with String Theory, which is awesome. Even better, we decided to make a children's book explaining it! and as if it couldn't get any better it did when we decided to give it an Alice in Wonderland theme...pretty darn awesome up to this point... My first mistake was volunteering to be the project manager... I personally love this job, but not with who I'm working with. Well, there's a ton of other BS that I'm not going to get into because it's just drama and only raises my blood pressure because I let someone get to me...

The issue I'm having today is that no one did what they were supposed to do...well, I did, but partner #1 was supposed to do character sketches for Alice, the Red Queen, the Caterpillar and the White Rabbit while I did sketches of Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter and March Hare. Partner #2 was going to write up the rough draft of the story based on the outline I wrote last week...she didn't even show up to class...so I have nothing to go on for the Illustrations I'm supposed to be starting over break...then to add to that, Partner #1 was going to be the character artist while I did the backgrounds, then today she's like, "I think I'll just do the layouts when the drawings are done"...oh really? huh, thanks for the heads up...Now I get to do both...ack...well, that's fine for the most part anyway since apparently she can't physically draw to begin with...good to know...

This is why I hate group work...no one follows through. We aren't in high school anymore, people should care and grow up and get their stuff done! When do I get to work with people who care about the good of their group and actually want to succeed in the goals? ever? please?

At anyrate... I think I'm going to unwind by drawing a lot of character sketches since as of now we're behind. Later tonight is the Creating Context Bachelor of Science Visualization Gallery Opening shindig that I have work up in. I'm excited. I hope boyfriend get's home in time to go with me...

So for Experience Frameworks we were supposed to "Hack" something and re-purpose it. I dug into some old car cd players I had tucked away from my car and my boyfriend's car. These three items were the result.

The Happy Button is an inside joke between me and Bryce. I constantly draw happy faces on him and poke them, calling them happy buttons to which he smiles wildly and if I poke him enough he tickles me. So now he has a real happy button. It used to be the on/off/volume for my car. the cherry blossom pin was the treble/bass button, also from my car and the necklace pendant was my car's cd laser. I didn't have to do anything to it because it was so pretty to begin with, it was made to be a necklace! Happy day! let me know what you think!

Spring Cleaning!

Okay, I just want to sit here and say how awesome I am. Yesterday and today I have just been a power cleaner. I cleaned and semi-organized my studio, cleaned and re-organized our bedroom, totally cleaned the bathroom and the Kitchen as well as the Living room, I even went so far to do both mine and the boyfriend's laundry! Not to gloat or anything but I am awesome! My feet are killing me but I got a darn good work out from all that work! Now just to keep it that way...I should totally confront the roommate and tell him to respect the cleanness... grrr...

Tonight, boyfriend, Tim and I are going to go to MCAD and enjoy Miyazaki Night with Anime Club. It will be soooo nice to just kick back and relax.

Well, I still have some last minute touches to put on the house before the boys come home. toodle!

Midterms

It's hard to believe but I'm already half way through the semester. Crazy! I'm almost a senior! Luckily this semester is going remarkably smoothly with no real hick-ups. All I have to do is hunker down and focus for the last stretch. My biggest goals right now are to locate and nail an internship for the summer, apply for and sort out funding for studying in Denmark in the fall and up my project quality for the last half of the semester to make sure all my grades are up where I want them. My grade goal this semester is all A's. I think I can do it.

At any rate, I just finished with my Media Analysis midterm, had my Cultural Anthropology midterm yesterday and my Visualizing Physics midterm last Thursday, that leaves Reading for Ideas midterm tomorrow and Experience Frameworks project Thursday morning. All in all very confident. I can feel myself starting to lose focus of what's important in favor of the fun and the relaxing. I need to jolt myself back into awareness of my priorities.

Bryce will be gone this weekend for Guard so perhaps that will give me some time and space to clean my studio and review what all I need to do without the much to welcomed distraction of the boyfriend. I also need to post some pictures for you of the paintings I'm working on, that's right, now there's two and soon to be three! I just can't seem to finish one before I start the other. Technically I have quite a few more than two going right now...some are just quite a bit older...*sigh*

Anyway, I think I'm done ranting for now. toodles!

Some art for you!

As promised, although a little late I know, I have some pictures for you of some recent art work. The two water colors are from when Boyfriend and I went to the Arboretum about two weeks ago. I'm rather happy with how they turned out!

The painting is still a work in progress but I'm really happy with it so far. It's a painting that's based on a collage I made from magazine clippings. the fire wasn't going to be fire at first since the original picture is of air turbulence, but the fire just kinda happened and I like where it's going... so :P

I also have a ton of pictures of the Orchids that are up at the Arboretum but I don't really have the time to prep the images for the blog...(make them smaller and rename them) so that will have to wait...or just not happen.

Oh and another thing...I started a new blog for something different. My personal fitness. so I don't think it will be an interesting read it will just be a good way to keep track of my progress. Perhaps if I find other people using blogs to keep track of themselves we can cheer each other on or something...*shrug*

Spyhouse Haunt

Bryce and I are currently sitting at the Spyhouse Cafe by MCAD. This place seems to be our favorite new haunt where we get coffee and eclairs and draw or read or whatever floats our boat from 10ish to midnight when they close. I like it here, upbeat music, chill people and fantastic coffee. Life is good and homework is getting done. I'm done with Monday and Tuesday's homework already and mostly done with Wednesday's. I'm rocking it. Plus I started a painting today. The roommate's party inspired it because his friends seemed to like the old paintings I have lying around. So There shall be another painting posted here soon (hopefully).

I read something interesting today for my Media Analysis class. The article talked about how Google and the internet in general is making us "stupid", or at least making us change how we process our information. It also said that the internet is shortening our attention span, making us jump from one thing to another and only reading a few paragraphs if that, before changing topics entirely. I can attest to this for my own habits as well. Now that I think about it, it's a terrible truth about how the internet is affecting people and the neural networks in our brains. Frankly, it makes me want to read more to hopefully fix what's been damaged... The internet is a great thing but I'm seriously wondering about the negatives it's having on social interaction and mental processing.

I'll do my best to remember to post some work when I get home, although I'm probably going to turn in a little early-ish tonight since I didn't actually get to sleep until 5:30 this morning because of my lovely roommate and his lovely friends...but that's another story not fit for this blog...All I can say is three more months (perhaps less!) and I won't have to see this kid ever again and I will be so happy when that day comes...

oops. where is my time going? honestly, it doesn't feel like 17 days have gone by since I updated this thing... is it some kind of rule that as you get older your perception of time goes faster? I remember a time when a day felt like a week and I had all the time in the world for whatever I wanted to do. Now I can hardly find the time to get all my "have to"s done let alone any play time. Every couple of days I'm reminded that I graduate in just over a year... and only just now am I starting to realize what I want to do, after all this time in school...Luckily it's still within where my education is going...In fact, this semester is really shaping me and my goals

Through Cultural Anthropology, Experience Frameworks and Reading for Ideas, I'm realizing I want to get into Experience Design of some kind. I'm interested in people's perceptions of events, how people filter information to fit their frame of thinking. I have no idea how to go about getting into this...but I have some leads I think... The good news is that I think this field will become a huge part of how businesses pick themselves back up out of this economic muck. Plus, I have a feeling that if I can get into this field and get good at it, I can convince an employer to send me back to school periodically to update my knowledge and ideas...*crosses fingers* Basically my plan right now is to graduate next spring with a BS from MCAD, find an awesome job in the above explained field and find a way back to MCAD to get a BFA to enhance my craft...Then eventually when MCAD wises up and creates a Masters program for the Libral Arts kids, I'll go back and get that too, for kicks and giggles...and because I can't get out of MCAD, I love it too much.

Hopefully that's a sound plan...and it happens...or I find something that works better... we'll see.

Classes are going well. I still love them all which is impressive for being over a third of the way into the semester...yikes! that's crazy...a third of the way done...where's my time???

I have some art to put up as well as some pictures from the Arboretum when Bryce and I went there on sunday...beautiful Orchids!!! oh my goodness...amazing! I'll try and put them up tonight but right now I have to start watching Existenz for Experience Frameworks paper due thursday...whee! I'll try and make myself update more often..but the good news is that by not spending time here updating, I'm using my time for homework...most likely.

okay, new song obsession is Panzer AG. Andy LaPlegua has three bands that he works. the first is Icon of Coil, which is more lyrical, only a little creepy but not very dancy. Then they're is Combichrist which is more angry than creepy, aggresive-tech, more moshy than dancy...and now my new discovery of Panzer AG is the perfect mix of both. Creepy vocals, elegant lyrics, heavy dance beats and overall excellent feelings. it's very good, yes! Look up the other bands if you feel so inclined, I certainly get much enjoyment out of all of them.

School is going well. I'm actually keeping up with all of it so far! yay! by the end of sunday I should have all of the homework done besides the video I have to do which isn't due until thursday, I've already started it so it's not like I'm procrastinating, I just know I'll need more time for it. I'm having trouble sorting out the whole music video thing since I've never done one before but I have a great idea for it! I'm taking the song White Rabbit as sung by Collide and mashing it up with clips from Mirror Mask since Helena's journey into the dream world is very similar to Alice's Adventure in Wonderland.

Okay so as debbie pointed out I'm not doing so great keeping this thing daily...well, the good news is that I'm keeping up with all of my homework...and that's the important thing. So I am going to say that this is no longer a daily goal of mine...It just can't happen. Certainly you can expect to see weekly updates with picture of work and whatever else I choose to put up here. but daily is a bit much for a full time college student in her Junior year.

At some point tonight I will likely post pictures from the Combichrist concert I went to last night...good lord was it fun. I got to mosh and get tossed around in the pit for the first time and that was certainly a rush. I was dancing so much that at one point I felt like I was going to pass out. Luckily for me they played a slow song right then and I was able to catch my breathe and lower my heart rate a bit before getting back into it...silly I know...but it was a fantastic time!

Back on track! yay!

I've been making it a habit to cover old calendar pages with art, the idea is that since I'm always carrying the planner around, I'll always have examples of my art work to show...it's been good fun so far and it's pretty much acting as my visual journal of sorts since I'm tending to use objects and events surrounding the week to inspire the creative work on the page...good stuff.

My apologies. I've been keeping busy with homework and arguing with my mother for the fact that she wants to bring Diablo back to the vet we got him from...Apparently "it's like living with the devil!", well he's aptly named then...He's perfectly fine around me the two times I went to check up on him since she got him. I guess he get's pissed off when she tries to give him his medicine...duh, and doesn't like being put in a kennel...duh, and just all around doesn't want to have anything to do with her...well he's a cat! *sigh* sorry. She's mad at me because, "of course he likes me, I'm a cat person". It doesn't take a genious to realize that cats like their space.

Sorry, bringing the drama to the blog, not a good thing...I'm just worked up about this because I don't think it's just or fair to give a cat 48 hours and giving up on him...

but artwork...I totally have some to show you, I'm going to keep teasing you about it though...I'm horrible. I just have to sit down and take pictures of it all, i'm so behind in that. but I'm keeping up with my homework! that's the important part!

School is going great, I love all of my classes because they all work very well together. More on that later, class is starting now

The Handsome Devil. That is the name of the cat my mom got last night. We did end up rescuing the cat that was dumped off at the Vet in North Minneapolis. He's a very large cat (14-15 pounds or so) with a beautiful coat of black and tawny brown-gray. His meow is very deep, slightly haggard but confident. We introduced him to Buddy (my black lab) and Diablo hardly acknowledged him, just sniffed him and kept walking, tail held proudly. Buddy just didn't know what to think of this fearless cat so he followed him around the house, pointing as though he were on the hunt. Diablo started to get a little agitated though and made his feelings known when it got a little crowded when the girl kitties came to investigate. When I dropped mom and Diablo at my mom's place, I watched him get the lay of the land. He hesitated quite a bit because my mother didn't do a very good job cleaning her apartment after fonz died. So Diablo clearly thought there was another cat around. poor guy.

I'm going to visit him today after I get off work and see how he's doing. Mom says she might end up taking him back because he's being anti-social...He's a cat! good lord, what does she expect! Poor guy, who knows what he's been through up until now. I'd be anti-social too! He just needs some time to get used to my mom and her place...*sigh* He is indeed a handsome devil though.

And as far as art goes...I have a lot to update now that I have my computer back. I will take care of that tonight when I get home and get some homework done. For now, it is time to start class...toodles!

Still Computerless

but back on a Mac! Life is good! I'm at my Aunt's now, grandma sitting for the evening while the disaster diva works overnight.

Never got a call from the Apple store today. I think I'll just stop in there tomorrow morning on my way home...I wants it back!

On a sadder note, my mother's cat, Fonz, was put down this morning. He was very old and very sick so it was certainly his time to go, but I'll always remember him. He always felt like a young cat in an old cat's body, up until the end and he was just in so much pain he couldn't move. But now my mom is looking for a new cat to keep her company, as it turns out, the lovely kaleidoscopekitty knows someone who knows a vet clinic that was just "given" a cat in desperate need of a loving home. (apparently his cage, that was abandoned outside the clinic reeked of pot...poor thing) Hopefully my mom can help the handsome man out.

So another day without art to show you, but never fear! I am keeping up with the creativity! I just can't post it...

Now I am off to the U of M where I will watch 24 hour theatre! so excited for this!

Computer Blues

I'm on Boyfriend's computer at the moment. I missed the cyber world too much. Although I have to say that I have been very productive as far as homework goes without the constant temptation to check facebook and email. I'm pathetic really...oh well. Lots of reading and a bit of art too.

Last week at the book store I picked up the Artful Blogger Magazine. I just started paging through it last night and it's so inspirational. All these artists putting their work, their lives and their hearts out there for strangers to read. I'm hoping that sometime soon I make the time to create more and better work to put up here. I honestly feel like I'm on a threshold, as though if I push a little farther, my work will improve by leaps and bounds. Someone in this magazine made an excellent point about not being afraid to try something new because what do you really have to lose? Some paint? some paper? Every effort is an experience and every experience is a lesson...Always something to learn.

On that note, I was very inspired last night, around midnight, to create something. so I looked at my planner which had two old pages that I couldn't rip out because they had important pages on the opposite sides. but the spread was ugly and I had crossed things out and made it even worse...so I took some watercolor, did a wash, found some magazine clippings, pasted them in, pulled out my gesso, painted some blobs here and there to create a surface to work on. Still developing it but I've discovered a good way to reuse the old pages of my planner. turn the thing into a visual journal of sorts. sure the pages become wrinkled and bulky, but suddenly my planner has character, meaning, parts of me and my art embedded into it. It's no longer a boring tool, only used for keeping track of my future, now it's a portfolio I can carry around and show people. Pretty cool I think. So every week there will be two new pages to draw on. Plus, having all that writing already on the page makes it less frightening to me.

Oddly enough, I'm an artist that's afraid of a pure white surface. I have all these canvases in the basement that I'm just too terrified to paint on. but they sure were fun to build! he...heh...*sigh* sketchbooks remain somewhat empty because I'm too afraid to play on the white space. I hate sketching in public because I feel like everyone is watching me and I'll disappoint them... Confidence issues, grrr. But I really do feel like forcing myself to play a little everyday, to make something, no matter what it is, and post it up here (whether I like it or not...) is helping me to free myself from that fear.

Wow, that was kind of a deep post...yay! I promise there will be pictures soon. I *could* probably post them using Bryce computer...but it's a PC *hiss* and I don't know what kind of photo programs he has...plus his screen display is really really weird making the font really really tiny...so if I misspelled anything, that would be why...I can't really see what I'm typing unless my face is right up against the screen...I feel like I did pretty well overall...*grins*

hopefully I can pick up my baby tomorrow. I miss my computer. toodles all!

Today I was reminded how much I enjoy writing. Our assignment for Reading for Ideas was to write a story of creation. The idea for this came quickly to me since Bryce and I have been talking about it a lot recently. I really enjoyed this. So much so that I think I went a little too in depth, at least more so than the assignment demanded. so rather than give you a drawing today, I'm going to bend the rules and let you read it. and hey, I gave you two creative things yesterday! hehe

Enjoy and tell me what you think. This is pretty much how I think things happened...it makes sense to me, more so than the Christian God with a Heaven and a Hell idea...

In the beginning there was First Father and First Mother. They wandered the void alone, not knowing the other existed. Until, in the vastness of time and space, they met unexpectedly and formed an unbreakable bond from a deep understanding of each other’s lonely journey through the void. Wishing there was more to the emptiness they traveled, they mated and gave birth to the Universe. This creation came with a great sacrifice, as they had to give up their physical appearance to give the Universe its Mass and Energy. But they were content to explore their creation as spirits.

For time immeasurable, they explored the new vastness of the Universe, but eventually they became lonely. Together they picked out their favorite planet, one with beautiful hills and valleys, gentle breezes and rolling waves. Here First Father gently skimmed his celestial hand through the water, giving the gift of Curiosity to many of the single celled organisms that floated about in the murk. These organisms wondered what the land was like, so they grew legs and began to explore. Some creatures wanted to know if they could eat something besides plants, so they ate smaller creatures and grew sharp teeth and claws to hunt them with. These smaller creatures, however, learned how to hide and defend themselves, developing camouflage patterns and poisons to deter their predators. Even though these creatures evolved to survive the changing world, their lives were short and they died. First Mother wept bitterly so she gathered the spirits of these creatures, and held them close to her.

First Father and Mother noticed that while all the creatures of this planet were beautiful, they only ever adapted and evolved when the environment demanded it. There was no desire for creation like they had had in the beginning. So together they visited Earth again. This time selecting a creature that was strange to them, it walked upright on two legs and used thumbs to grab things. They assumed this creature’s form, First Mother gathered water around herself and First Father gathered fire around himself so they could be seen and felt. The Great Mother approached Woman and gently touched her face giving her the gift of Creativity. The Great Father then gave Man the gift of Fire, teaching him how to create it and use it to craft other things. Now Man and Woman shared their gifts with each other, their families and the rest of their tribe. Father and Mother watched as dwellings were built, tools were fashioned and used for the benefit of all. Soon tribes were gathering around great fires to entertain each other with their ideas of why things worked the way they did and crops were sown to supply food for the growing population. Religion and Agriculture were born.

Now First Mother knew that she must release the spirits of the creatures she had been holding close for so long. She let them return to Earth to become human children with the promise that they would one day return to her and tell her stories of the lives on Earth. The spiritual molecules were so excited that they danced together in joy, mixing all about until they could no longer tell one from the other. All of their experience on Earth was mingled and shared and the individual was lost until it would find its home in a human mind. Every time creatures die, their spirit joins the dance with First Mother until some energy is needed to spark the mind of another being on Earth once again. Thus there is no one soul for an individual, rather a collection of spiritual energy from various times and places from Earth’s great history. There is no final destination for spirits, only the continual renewal and experience of Earth.

So I'm feeling generous and I'm giving you a two for one today. Two artsy things in one day! what a deal! The first is some sketches I did during the inauguration...

and the second is a bag I made tonight. Surprisingly it didn't take me very long. about 3 hours I think...didn't time myself but that sounds about right. I used some Kimono silk I got from an Aunt of mine. I'm so happy with the results that I have a feeling more bags will be coming soon. I want to sell these on etsy but I'm afraid I've become attached to this one...it's so pretty! It measures about 15" x 15" so it will likely become our new grocery bag to avoid using ugly plastic bags. so I totally need to make more anyway cause one is not enough! And hey, I can't use this fancy kimono silk for just groceries! maybe It'll be a new purse? who knows, but it's purdy!

And now I think it's time for bed. Tomorrow I have my Reading for Ideas class at 9:30, then I'm off to work at 1...then back home for more homework and perhaps another crafty thing...another bag? a pillow? a cute apron? those are three things that are on my mind at the moment...hehe

Inauguration Day

This is so exciting! I'm sitting in the Student Center with a large portion of my school, eating pie and watching the inauguration via cnn. It's a great feeling being part of a generation that really cares about the future of our nation and the whole world. The level of involvement in my school alone was really touching and now we gather to enjoy the benefits of our work. You can bet that the drawing of the day will involve the inauguration. okay, toodles!

So I got some magazines that have absolutely amazing project ideas in them... except I don't have what I would need...*sigh* particularly for some pillows and tote bags, for those all I need is interfacing and a pillow...so that's cheap. something I could put up on the etsy store! woot! which reminds me...totally didn't put the painting up there yet...I should do that before I decide to keep it...hehe

silly little drawing/painting today...I spent too much time watching Transformers and reading the magazines...*sigh*

Class starts tomorrow. I am so pumped! I love school! always something interesting and new going on. Hopefully this semester I can stay on top of things and really apply myself to what I'm doing...I need to stop stressing so much and just focus.

oh and fun idea I had inspired by one of the magazines I got...Mad Hatter Tea Party. perhaps there will be more on this idea soon...hehe, just thought I'd tease you a bit...

I'm starting to lean away from only doing drawings...anything artsy is game now...paintings, jewelry, drawings...etc...photos not so much but possible. the painting today kinda sucks but I thought I'd let myself play with abstract non-sense. not really my thing, although maybe I just need practice. *shrug*

oh and I did open up an etsy shop today... http://vexennui.etsy.com I do believe that's correct...there's nothing up yet. I want to take some more pictures of yesterday's painting and put that up. I'm thinking about asking for $50 for it. is that too much? not enough? I never know how to price these things...*sigh* but that will likely go up tomorrow or some time soon at least...

Okay, so it's a bit late I know, but here it is. I've been wanting to do a painting for a while and so this sketch will become a painting today. Hopefully I do it right since I really like how this sketch turned out and I haven't painted in a very very long time.

I swear I could spend the entire weekend working on it and be perfectly happy! but I won't...too much else to do...like play guitar hero and make pretty artwork...and mayhap do some cleaning since the boys are gone until tomorrow evening.

Hokay, so...I've heard nothing but my roommate and his girlfriend argue for the entire night. I couldn't help but draw something horribly emo to commemorate their momentous fight and possible breakup.

I agree with bryce in that he thinks it looks like a heart that's loaded with tar and decay like a dead smoker's lung. I used black in and red watercolor for this. I'm actually rather happy with the result of these two mediums together. whee! time to read some more while my hair drys and read another chapter or two. Go Climactic endings to epic books!

Okay, now let's see here. we're up to yesterday. The story behind yesterday's drawing is that at work I found out my coworker's son was taken to the hospital when he couldn't feel his legs. As it turned out, they found a blood clot in his neck. He was in surgery for two hours while they got it out. I made a get well card for him and today everyone signed it. He plays hockey and I've heard he's super super good at it. so I made a hockey teddy bear...see!? I can't stop thinking about making teddy bears!!! *sigh* but he's cute. I'm very very happy with how the card turned out. I used colored pencil too which I'm not very used to...but good results were had.

So right now I'm going to take a break from my desk and read a couple of chapters from my book before drawing again. Must finish the Amber Spyglass before classes start again!!!

Okay so I'm not going to lie, I didn't draw this day...I slept and worked on the puzzle...after driving all night from Milwaukee the last thing I felt like doing was exerting any physical or mental effort beyond matching parts of a puzzle... so instead of trying to make up a drawing I could say I did that day. I'm going to do what I would have done that day anyway and post some pictures from the show...

Lately I've...wait...I just want to point out the stupidity of my roommate's girlfriend...she's talking on the phone to her dad that lives a ways away about something to do with states she's been too. (I wasn't paying much attention until I heard this) but then she something to the effect of, "and you hear all these people talk about how the world is overpopulated but they should see those states with all that open space..." I wanted to smack her...It's not about space! it's about resources!!! and how do you propose to move people from third world countries into our blessedly open spaces? gahhh!!! I just want to make her take the Aesthetics of Sustainability and the Futures classes that I took and make her see the folly in her statement...but there's no point...

anyway...so, lately I've been wanting to make dolls. don't ask me why cause I don't know what possessed me to want this. so the next two drawings are of designs I think would be fun. I was feeling emo this night so this doll is kinda sad looking.

I used watercolor. no idea how this will translate on fabric...but just a sketch for pose, color and style I guess...whee!

On a side note, Bryce and I got a puzzle today...3000 pieces, it is proving to be quite the challenge...and in my focused distraction I knock beer on the left side edge so that was quite frustrating but we survived. hopefully they don't warp too much... I also picked up Fluxx and Zombie Fluxx which will provide great amounts of entertainment when I can find people to play with...like tomorrow...

Okay, so part of me wants to cheat and say that this is my "drawing" for the day...even though I made them yesterday and they aren't drawings...but they're artistic! and no I'm not actually going to say these are it...I'm just really proud of them and wanted to post them. I made a bracelet with sterling silver Alice in Wonderland charms, furnace glass beads and Swarovski crystals. The characters are The Queen, Alice, The Rabbit and The Mad Hatter. and then I mad matching earrings with a deck of cards and a tea set to go with the theme. Totally happy with the results! I bet they'd sell super well on Etsy...but I can't bear to part with them...that's the problem with me and my artwork...I get too attached to it...*sigh* but I'm happy and that's what matters!

So I'm going to try and do a drawing before the night is done while I watch Enchanted. (such a cute movie!!!)

Day 7

I say mostly because I still feel like some finish work needs to be done, but I've worked on it long enough today and I need to take a step away from it and look at it tomorrow with fresh eyes. I'm really happy with the result. I'm very much enjoying this whole drawing a day thing... time for bed!

Day 6

Okay, day 6 is going to be part one of a 2 part drawing. I don't know why but earlier today at work we were talking about 2012 and the end of days that everyone thinks is going to happen. oddly enough I was the only one slightly excited that something like this would happen in my life time. sure it will suck when it finally comes if it does actually come. but I mean, how many people will be able to say they lived during the apocalypse? I'm weird though...anyway, so I started reading about the Mayan calendar and I came across this fancy guy named Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god. so I used a photo reference I taken from a mayan temple and came up with something pretty cool I think...here you go

clearly it isn't done yet but that's where part two comes in. I want to do some fancy color work but I want to do it when I have some more energy and can do some research on mayan colors that would look good. I'm planning on using gouache on this one. so look out for this in color tomorrow! yay!

Day 5

I keep cutting it very close as far as getting these drawings up each day goes...don't let the time update on the blog fool you, it's actually 11:40pm not whatever it says...I shouldn't tell you that, that would give me what, about a two hour leeway? *shrug*

So here's the drawing for the day, it's the bottle of wine Kristi gave me last night for Christmas. it's in a pretty kitty bottle! I can't wait to try this! and I'm not sharing either...it's all mine!!! I have to say I'm pretty proud of how I made it look glass-like and shiny. and the cute little cat boa! hehe.

My days have been pretty uneventful. I'm having people over on saturday so I'm excited for that...I took a three hour "half hour" nap, you know, one of those where you tell yourself you're just going to lay down for a bit and end up killing your alarm when it goes off only to sleep for entirely too long...yeah...one of those... after my nap, bryce and I went out to ghetto cub and got some food, when we got home we made tuna sandwiches and tomato bisque soup...(yes debbie, you should be very jealous...hahaha!) quite tasty...But now I think its time for bed...since it's almost midnight and all...

Third day in a row that I haven't worked out...bad bad katie...*sigh*

Day 4

Nothing terribly good today since I spent most of the day curled up with my book. Then around 4 or so I went to get my mother and take her out to Jasmine 26 for her Christmas. After that I gave her a tour of my place and then headed over to the theater where we watched Marley & Me...Honestly, everyone says it's such a great movie and I feel like I've seen it before...like all the other supposed "tear-jerkers" out there involving a man, a woman and their dog...No surprises, point-blank morals and only half-way decent acting. It got no tears from me, although my mother more than made up for my dry eyes.

meh, whatever, didn't spend any money on is so at least I have that going for me...

oh, here's the drawing for the day, sorry it kinda sucks...just the sauce trays at Jasmine...

After the movie, I dropped mom off and ran over to Kristi and Alex's place where they were having a gathering of peoples. spent about an hour there but I'm afraid my mood we set poorly after spending too much time with my mother. But it was good seeing people again, I think I shall have my own gathering of peoples this coming saturday, before everyone goes back to school. sounds like a good plan to me.

Okay, off to bed now. I was going to work out with boyfriend but I'm too drained to move and I have to work in the morning...yay pay day!!! Toodles all

Day 3

Okay, here it is for Day 3. I did go to the MIA today and did a lot of sketching but unfortunately I had to use pencil and not pen like I usually prefer. so I'm not posting those sketches because I'm not a fan of them yet. perhaps I'll use them or redo them for something else

but here's what I did for the day...

Took the pose from a magazine add. Really I just wanted to play with the color pencils my coworker gave me for christmas. I did a sketch with no-photo blue to see if it was indeed no-photo...seemed to work rather well! then I layered on the colors, and then finally I threw in some pen work to tie it all together.

Now I'm going to get ready for celebrating Bryce's army buddy's 23rd birthday at a pub! I love pubs...so toodles all!

Happy New Year everyone! yay for 2009 and here's the start to my attempt at a drawing a day!

Bryce and I went to the Arboretum today and explored a bit. I love that place and it's a lot less busy in the winter so it's typically nice and quite. They have a display up right now of fairy dwellings and this was one of them. I didn't have a lot of time to spend there so this was reproduced from a photo...but that's okay...still looks fun. the poem that's scralled in my horrible handwriting is as follows..

"Love can be measured in different ways. Some count months and some count days. I measure our love in a different way, it's the little things like a kiss goodbye or when I come home and you say hi, there are many more things I would love to say that make me love you more each day."

I found it on a website with a bunch of poems that relate to fairies...not quite sure how this one related to fairies but I liked it the best and it mentions home...so yeah...whatevs

I took a bunch of pictures but I think I'll be using them for drawings so I may or may not post them later...but hopefully from now on you shall get a new drawing every day from me! *crosses fingers*

So another day of break has passed by and I've got little to show for it beyond a new fun site discovery and more progress in my book. (His Dark Materials Series...awesome stuff...) but that's what breaks are for, right?

Over the weekend I perfected my new excel spreadsheets for my budgeting plan. I've found that simply the idea of me holding myself accountable for my spending makes me want to spend less or nothing if I can avoid it. In fact, I stopped at Target on the way home to pick up some fish for dinner and some other things we were out of. Walking through the aisles I saw all sorts of lovely things I thought would be good to have and I asked myself if it was worth adding that to my spread sheet and seeing the numbers drop more than they needed to. So clearly this idea is working and that makes me happy...now I just need to get a paycheck so I can see the numbers go up instead of down...

Now for the new fun site discovery...check out the web-comic "Lackadaisy" (http://www.lackadaisycats.com/) for the cutest reference to the 1920's prohibition with cat gangsters...I found her page while I was looking on the web for character drawing tutorials. This woman had just that and I loved what her drawings looked like so I dug deeper and found her webcomic.

Her tutorial has me wanting to work more on the concept of using guidelines as opposed to outlines, which is a simple idea but hard for me to put into practice for some reason. so after I'm done watching Ironman (very good movie...yay!)I'm going to go back upstairs and start doing some basic animals and humans...this is sad but I pretty much have to reteach myself how to draw again, a year away from a real drawing class without any practice has certainly taken it's toll...I can still copy something no problem (ex. using a photo reference for body posture or facial expression), but creating original work with no photo reference is my major problem. *sigh* I dunno, Hopefully making myself draw everyday will cure that and give me some interesting work to build on!

Tomorrow is new years eve...hopefully this one goes better than last year...

in less than a week it will be 2009...and it will feel the same as 2008...only I will feel older and more behind than ever. I'm actually kind of looking forward to 2012 so we can all find out if the Mayan calendar thing is real or if their calendar maker just died when he got to 2012...but 2009 is just another year. Another chance to set up silly New Years Resolutions like "I'm going to get in shape" or "I'm going to set aside money every paycheck into savings!" or "I'm going to volunteer in my community". I mock these things because, let's be honest, they never happen...and every year is as bad as the last as far as our weight, our savings and our contribution to the greater good...I laugh at anyone who makes a new years resolution and actually waits until the new year to start their goal...I mean, why not start now? For example...I'm planning on making it a goal to do a new drawing every day in 2009...that doesn't mean I can't start warming up now...I've done a few drawings this week just to get the feel for what it takes. I feel silly for the fact that I don't draw every day...it's quite sad...but I created a block for myself long ago and now I realize I need to overcome it...

anyway...so a drawing every day...

plus I'm working on ways to really start putting a dent in my debt. I mean...it's pretty bad now...not even counting my student loans...which will suck, terribly bad... just looking at my credit cards...it's bad. but rather than make this a "new years resolution" I'm starting now...I've created the Budget sheets, the spending report and determined that once the lease at this place is up, I'm moving back in with my aunt and my grandma (thank you so much Debbie, I hope you know how grateful I am that you're letting me come back). Granted, the lease doesn't end until April...but it's good to know this anyway...I'm also pondering the possibility of getting my art quality up and starting to sell things on etsy.com. I have some prints in mind that I think are worth putting up but Bryce is right in that I need to get my quality up first if I want it to sell... I want to put my best representation of my work up. I just need more work to pick from...

So, lots on my plate for 2009...plus school, plus work, plus internship (if I can find one!!! grr)

I guess this update got a little drama-filled but I felt the need to write something and money is all I can really think about lately...

Hey everyone, Hope you are having an excellent Christmas. So far this year I got a lovely slow-cooker/crock pot thing which will be excellent for when I don't feel like cooking. Got some giftcards/cash, a soy wax candle, a very cool looking bag with a dragon design and santa floss goodies. The house got a new kitchenaid mixer so I get the old one which will also prove to be excellent once I fix the motor thing-a-ma-jigger.

I gave my mom a "daughter giftcard" where I will treat her to dinner and a movie on any saturday of my winter break. so I think she'll redeem that next week after new years and that shall be fun...ish, well, good food at least.

Bryce is snooozing in the basement which amazes me since he's "allergic" to cats and that's midnight's favorite spot...*shrug* it's a miracle! we'll be going to his mom's for dinner and I'm sure another nap will be in order after that...

Christmas here is pretty uneventful. nice and quite. the big family one is this saturday and I still have to get my mom another gift for that since I drew her name...maybe I'll do an illustration for her or something...either that or I'll be lazy and just get a giftcard for holiday or the grocery store... who knows

Merry Christmas! *yawn*

Okay, so the masking has been removed and athena is starting to look pretty awesome...I added the spear because it looked like she needed to be holding something and I'm quite happy I did. The owl is just about done. Pretty much the finishing touches will be Athena's face and the medusa face detail on the shield. The main thing I'm having trouble with right now is the helm and making it look like a Roman helm and not like a mowhawk...The problem is that it's head on and technically there would be no dimensional view of the helm...it would look like a mowhawk...I dunno, maybe I'm troubling over something that doesn't bother anyone...but if you're reading this and you have suggestions...lemme know...

illustrated gifts

So rather than buy presents this year I'm trying to make as many gifts as possible...cause i have no money...but I'm also halfway decent with a pen/brush and ink/paint...currently working on two illustrations for a couple of coworkers at goodybead. The first one I finished is of Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the Hunt/Moon. I'm super happy with it... here is the finished pic...

the second one is still in progress...it is Athena, favorite of Zeus and Goddess of War!

Earlier today after I got off work I ran to Blick to get some much needed supplies. While I was there I found a ginormous art crate that actually fits all of my art stuff (minus my acrylic paint gear but who actually wants to carry that around all the time...) so here's a pic of the new crate all moved into and glorious!

and of course, while I'm working on all these cool things I get really into it so I tend to stand up at the exciting parts...then Sleven steals my chair...but she's sooooo cute!!!

And since I'm working so hard on this I thought I'd post a pic of my work space so you can all picture me working feverishly...

well, not dreaming anymore...looks like winter is as strong (if not stronger) than ever. but just because the roads are terrible does not slow some people down...particularly the "weavers". In fact, just the other day I played with one. Fortunately the roads were better last week so I felt I could take this guy pretty well...basically all I did was stop him from weaving (I hate weavers...they make no sense to me) He got very angry at me and showed me one of his fingers. I just smiled and waved at him...which made him all the more angry...my work there was done...hehe. so after I got home I was still pumped with adrenaline, so I let lose some energy on my sketchbook. Immortalizing this butt-head was quite fun...here are the pics...

Now, besides the office holiday party and the crazy amounts of snow, my week has been pretty chill. Haven't gotten a lot done but that's pretty awesome actually. Today I got groceries...so we can eat, and I cleaned the living room floor because there was salt everywhere! Earlier today I saw a bunch of squirrels in my grandma's backyard that seemed to be having a good time in the blistery weather (although burying things in the snow didn't seem all that productive...) I saw one with snow on is face and he was climbing a wall like a ninja so I dubbed him Snow-face ninja squirrel and started drawing squirrelly pictures...here they are...

But right now I'm going to grab something to eat and start illustrating some Christmas Presents! whoo hoo! Perhaps I'll post more as they get done...

Okay, just want to leave a quick post in between bursts of cleaning. I got my grades back from school and I thought I'd post them here since I'm rather proud of them. Naturally there is room for improvement but when I look at my past grades I can see a nice trend of steady improvement...so that's awesome...

busy busy day

today was a lovely day full of relaxed being busy. I mean to say that although I kept myself busy and got a lot done, none of it HAD TO BE DONE THIS INSTANT OR THE WORLD WILL END!!! and let me tell you, that felt good.

After work, boyfriend and I ran over to good old N'dale to drop off his orders and start signing up for spring semester. The highlight of this venture was me running into my counselor from when I went to N'dale. Although I couldn't initially remember her name, I saw her as she was walking around the academics office and I pounced on her. We had a great time catching up and it felt so good to see that she still had the artwork I gave her up on her wall. It was awesome being able to catch up with her, she was one of the few people that really made going to N'dale such a positive experience in a somewhat dark part of my life.

After running more errands, Bryce and I went to MOA to meet up with my dad. Dad got me my Christmas present a little early...because I gave the subtle hint that I wanted Rosetta Stone Level 1 Danish for when I study abroad in Denmark...so about $210 later (none of it out of my poor college student pocket) I now have Rosetta Stone on my computer!!! yay! I just got done playing with it and I'm quite satisfied with how the program works. Although I have to say, if it weren't for the fact that I'm planning on studying in Denmark, I would not have picked up Danish...more like Japanese or German...but Danish is certainly an interesting challenge!

Sadly I don't have a drawing for you today...although I do have the illustration for "Illustration Friday" in the works and it will likely be done tomorrow...I think my biggest goal for the time being will be to work on a drawing every day, not necessarily finish a drawing a day...Until we get to the New Year...then I want to finish a drawing a day...sounds reasonable...now hold me accountable!...all one or two of my readers...(thank you amber and debbie) (if I have more readers you should make yourselves known to me...it's good to know people are out there reading what I have to say...)

okay, now I think I'm going to watch more of my movie and work on the illustration! Goodnight all!

The sweet taste of freedom

The semester is over and my schedule is a bit more open, only to be filled with work to earn some more money! haha so much for a break right?

Updates on artwork wise...Three main projects for the break...

1. Design a Tattoo for my friend Logan. Basically it's going to be a pentacle made up of puzzle pieces with the various colors of the elements integrated somehow.

2. Design the applique centerpiece for a quilt my aunt wants to make, based off of a hotel sign for the Hotel Gatto Bianco, we saw while we were on the Island of Capri, Italy.

3. Design a banner for my boyfriend's WoW Guild's Website/forum.

Along with those projects, I'm also aiming to find an internship for spring semester and apply for a study abroad internship in Denmark for the Fall of 09.

Those are my major goals for the break...along with many other smaller ones like work full time hours, buy Rosetta Stone: Danish, clean and organize my studio, clean the house, shovel driveway, move stuff in the garage so a car can fit inside...and then all the christmas related things. I need to remember to make some christmas gifts for people...*sigh* too much! well Hopefully I'll be able to post some progress soon...

This afternoon we went to the Illuminations concert with the Twin Cities Women's Choir. It was absolutely beautiful but more importantly it was inspirational, if in a round about way. One of the songs was called "Ancient Mother" and a small group of women chanted the names of various Goddesses from all cultural backgrounds. the rest of the choir sang the rest of the song. While I was listening I thought about drawing some of the goddesses, particularly Kali, Artemis and Athena. This, for some reason, reminded me of someone I met online, they made it a point to draw something every day. With the New Year coming up, I wondered if I could give it a shot. so that'll be my "new year's resolution" if you will...starting this week...possibly tonight if I come up with something...I'm also going to try and participate in the "Illustration Friday" thing that goes on online every week. so, good deal right? This goal should help kick my drawing skill back into shape.

Speaking of back into shape...that's something I need to do...but our Snap Fitness thing is out for now...gotta fix that...cause I is starting to pack it on a bit...

Last day o' Classes!

Currently on a break from Illustration while the instructor has some "time alone" with our work. Thought I would update this since Facebook isn't letting me upload images...Internet might be misbehaving or something.

So here's the Final for my illustration class all done and texted up...

If you can't guess/can't read the text, the images are for the lovely poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll. Also if you can't see in the image, the jabberwock is getting ready to take a bite out of a bunny...how tragic...hehe. Originally I did this work on the computer using photoshop and my wacom...but it turned out horribly...just terrible so I redid it using watercolor and I'm a million times happier. This will be posted on the website shortly.

Still waiting on buying the domain name for my site...(praying to god that no one buys it before I get the money...) but I can't afford it right now...I should ask for it for Christmas...that would be awesome!!!! Then when I get that set up, I'm planning on designing new business cards to buy through Moo.com again. The firedancing ones I have right now are cool but not very clean/professional looking. The portfolio class is all done and graded (got an A or A- I believe) and there are already changes I want to make to the site...so more to come on that when I'm not sick of looking at code...

Okay, I'm going to see if facebook is cooperating yet...toodles all.

The hunt for an Internship

Okay...so the book is still coming along, I still have a lot to do but I can handle it...however the reports are another matter...no idea...no idea...

Onto happier topics...I spoke with one of my instructors today over a chai latte at Mapp's cafe about the class and my strengths and weaknesses. We also went over my notebook and talked about how it could be used as a tool for my personal futures. Afterward she gave me a tour of KFAI Radio station and introduced me to the person in charge of News and the person in charge of hiring volunteers and interns...quite lovely but I wasn't quite prepared for it so I'm sure I looked flustered. But if I got the internship there it would be either for Reporting the News or working on their Website, updating the blog and whatnot... either way it would be fun... and it's not too far from where I currently live, good plus. Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck finding a paid internship...we'll see...wish me luck...

So anyway, I'm currently at school TAing, being sad that I forgot my good pen at home since I was going to spend much of the night here doing work and not being distracted by my home. After I decide to leave TAing I've got to scan some stuff for Illustration. Then back home to work on EVERYTHING!!! yeah!!! I need more "calm" tea...gallons and gallons of it...and a hug.

Utopia Book

So my Utopia project is still no where near being done and it's due in two days...less...but it's coming along and I do really like it so far. I got a little off focus in the first couple of pages and I didn't like where it was going, but I changed directions and now I like it. It's more of a tool now, less of a history lesson of my boring life. Along with all the writing, I'm doing a lot of drawings. The drawings don't really have anything to do with what's being written but each one is getting better and better. I should take some pictures and put them up here...perhaps tomorrow after I have a bit more to show for all the trouble it is to post pictures on this thing. basically the point of the book is to find my authentic self, since I'm not happy with who I am right now...I want to change many of my bad habits and make room for a new approach to life, which I greatly need. The other bonus to this is that I'm getting much better with watercolors...Gotta love this watercolor kit that I got last week. Shouldn't have spent the money on it but good lord it was worth it...and $12 isn't that bad anyway...

Anyway, just thought I'd update on what I'm working with at the moment...whee! back to work!

Yay! One thing totally off my list of "to-do's"! That feels rather nice...but then I look down the list and I feel dismayed again..*pout*

Besides looking at my computer screen for most of the day trying to sort out my site, Bryce took me out for breakfast at Perkins and that was lovely. I had a massive omelette and pancakes and breakfast potatoes! Leaving me with lots of leftovers to snack on later tonight. *nom nom* Unfortunately on our way back Bryce's car decided it didn't want to go anywhere on the highway so we got to deal with that and that wasn't fun...Later we decided to go out to target and pick up some christmas decorations for our lovely tree. I took some pictures for you!

Aesthetics of Sustainability: Utopia project, Authentic Self Journal, add beads to bookmark and fill the book with all sorts of things regarding my search for the true me, sketches, poems, goals, dreams...lots and lots of stuff (why did I give it so many pages?). Also bring in Terrarium, no problem there...that's easy. Also Complete Reports that I'm behind on...upwards of 5 reports on different things pertaining to Freshwater...crap...

Copywriting: Complete Ad Campaign for Longs Horseradish, clean up images and layout text.

Illustration: 2 Spreads for a Children's Book (in my case, "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carrol)

Really the only thing I'm freaking out about is the Utopia Project and the reports I'm behind in. I've been freaking out about them for weeks...(meaning I've done nothing to get them done...just tried to keep up with everything else and ignore the problem...)In reality, this is all very doable...I just have to focus, which is harder than it should be for me. Even now I'm taking a break I can't afford to update this...but I needed to stop looking at coding for a moment...plus I need to get in the habit of updating this thing...we'll see how much I can get done this weekend.

Tomorrow, the plan is to have breakfast at my Aunt's house, run to MCAD to scan illustrations, run home and finish the site, post the site and work my bum off catching up with the reports...plus work on the Utopia book. In fact...I think I'll take a break from coding for the night and just work on the book...it won't write itself. Hello All!

This blog is now up and running! It connects my new website with my current projects and will provide a more constant up-to-date working base of my works in progress. If you have suggestions, requests or just want to say hi, please feel free to leave a comment on my posts. If you have a blog and think I'd be interested in it, please comment and let me know too! I love learning about new things and expanding my knowledge!

I will apologize in advance if I fail to update this as regularly as I'd like. I used to blog all the time in High School but stopped when I realized the world didn't need my drama added to it. But now I realize that blogging is an excellent tool when stripped of the icky drama. I've got a different blog for drama! this is my work only, serious fun blog of joy and progress...hehe
